Bringing Nature into the Classroom
Back in October of 2008, School Library Journal listed several Nature resources that would be great to use in the classroom.  I've re-listed the resources here in the hopes that you find on of them useful in your own school.  (The original annotated list, "On the Web" is by Cynthia Borgen and can be found on page 61 of that issue.)

EEK! Environmental Education for Kids - although developed and hosted in Wisconsin, the site provides information that would be of environmental interest in many states (including Arkansas).  The articles and activities are most well suited for mid-upper elementary students.  Of particular interest as we move into fall would be some of the seasonally relevant articles in Nature Notes or the Autumn Scavenger Hunt.

MBGnet - the Missouri Botanical Garden has articles on various Biomes and Ecosystems of the world, which again are well suited for the mid elementary grades.  The background information given on these various regions would provide good, reliable starting points for independent student projects. The Garden also has developed a site on the Biology of Plants that gives information and student activities to help them learn about the world of plants.

North American Bear Center - the safest way to bring a bear into the classroom.  This site provides a number of interesting bear facts, articles, and lesson plans.  Also has real-time and archived video footage of bears and bear dens.
